Dearest gentle reader —
I am no Penelope Featherington.
I’m sure she was is a wonderful person character.
Alas, I am a real-life person. I’m not much of a character.
My life is nothing like a romance novel, for better or for worse. I have never been in a ballroom, for example, but I went to a dance in a high school gymnasium — which isn’t even the same thing, and is scarcely worth mentioning.
I look forward to sharing more fascinating details about myself. For now, just know that I plan on writing and posting little things here and there.
I used to post updates on ***stack — can I say that name over here? — in a column called Barrett Monthly.
From time to time, I also post updates on a Medium publication called Upper Lower Middle — which is where this column/newsletter/random thing gets its name.
I like to write — and I also like to goof off. (I can’t say whether I’m more of a writer or more of a goofer, though I suspect it’s the latter.)
I feel like that’s a sufficient introduction for the time being. I suspect we’ll get to know each other better — or you’ll get to know me, anyhow — as I send out more updates.
And I’ll try my best to do that.
